How does the Flat for Education plan work?

Flat for Education offers three plans tailored to the unique goals of your music program.
Whether you are managing a single classroom, a growing department, or an entire school district, our options are designed to scale with your needs. Each plan seamlessly integrates teacher licenses with per-student seats into one unified account.

The best part? Every license on your account shares the same expiry date. We’ve simplified the administration so you can spend less time tracking renewals and more time inspiring your students.

Teacher Plan

Designed for individual teachers and small programs with up to 2 teachers.

School & District Plan

For programs with 3 or more teachers. Includes everything in the Teacher Plan, plus Canvas, Schoology, and Classlink integrations, a shared resource library across your school or district. To get started, contact our team!

District Site License

Unlimited teacher and student seats at a flat annual rate, designed for large districts that want predictable costs. Includes everything in the School & District Plan, plus dedicated onboarding, implementation support, and a full day of in-person training and professional development.

How can I purchase a plan for my school?

Teacher Plan: You can purchase the Teacher Plan directly from the Billing page in your account. Choose your number of teacher and student seats, and complete the purchase.

School & District Plan and Site License: These plans are set up through our sales team. Please contact us at edu@flat.io.

We accept the following payment methods:

• Online by card in your account settings or via a guest purchase link (contact us)
• Purchase Orders (PO)
• Bank transfer (SWIFT, SEPA, BACS, ACH, and BSB)
• Check (US customers only)
• PayPal

Do you accept Purchase Orders (PO)?

Yes. If you're on the Teacher Plan, you can generate a quote directly from your Billing page. For all other plans, please contact us for a quote. Once you get a quote, please send your Purchase Order by email to edu@flat.io, or upload it directly in your Flat for Education Billing portal if you are the account admin.

How do licenses work?

All licenses on your account start and end on the same date. Student or teacher seats added partway through the year are prorated to align with your existing expiry date.

Account admin can review the license usage anytime in School Settings > Billing. This page shows your active licenses, unused licenses, and any surplus accounts that need attention.

• Active licenses: The licenses that are assigned and used by people on your school account.
• Unused licenses: Available seats not yet assigned. Licenses are assigned automatically when someone signs in.
• Surplus accounts: This happens when your program is growing faster than your current plan! Additional accounts won't have access until you add more seats or tidy up your roster.

What if I’m on a Legacy plan?

If you joined us before the 2026 update, you are likely on a Legacy plan. We value our long-term partners, so we’ve made sure you have the flexibility to choose the path that best fits your current budget and teaching goals.

Keep your current rate
You are welcome to stay on your Legacy plan and renew at your current rate. We believe in honoring the commitment you made when you first joined the Flat community.

Unlock the 2026 Music Toolkit
Our latest tools—including the Sight-Reading Generator, Tuner, Metronome, Tone Generator, and interactive Ear Training & Fingering worksheets—are designed for our updated feature set. To access these new features, upgrade to our current pricing model is required.

Try before you decide
We want you to experience the impact of these new tools in your classroom first. You can trial the full 2026 Toolkit for free until the end of your current subscription period.

At your next renewal, you’ll have two options:
1. Upgrade: Gain permanent access to the full suite of new features and all future updates.

2. Remain on Legacy: Continue with the classic notation features at your existing rate (without the new specialized tools).

✏️ Note: Upgrading to the modern plan is a permanent change to your account. Once you’ve moved to the new model to enjoy the full feature set, you won't be able to return to Legacy pricing.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add a second teacher to my account?
Yes. The Teacher Plan supports up to 2 teachers, and both have full admin access. If you need a third teacher, you'll need to move to the School & District Plan — our team can help with that.

What happens if I add students after buying my teacher license?
All seats on your account expire on the same date. Student seats added partway through the year are prorated to align with your existing expiry.

Which LMS integrations are included in each plan?
Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams are available on all paid plans. Canvas, Schoology, and Classlink are available on the School & District Plan only.
If you're on the Teacher Plan and need Canvas, Schoology, or Classlink, please contact us — we can enable these integrations for your account.

I currently have a 3 year contract. What can we use? If your multi-year plan was purchased before March 2026, the legacy plan terms apply. See the section above for details.

Can I buy multiple years at once?
Yes, multi-year agreements are available on School and District plans through our sales team. Please contact us at edu@flat.io.

How does the site license renewal work?
Site licenses must be renewed through sales — they do not renew automatically. You will receive reminders ahead of your renewal date. Please contact us if you have any question regarding your Site license plan.

I'm a Flat user. Can I switch to a Flat for Education plan?
Yes. You can migrate from a Flat account to Flat for Education, which gives you access to education-specific features including assignments, LMS integrations, assessments, and classroom management tools. Sign up for Flat for Education to get started.
