Set up Flat for Education in ClassLink with LTI 1.3

Flat for Education connects to ClassLink with LTI 1.3. Once set up, teachers and students open Flat for Education from their ClassLink LaunchPad and are signed in automatically, with their account created on first launch and their role (teacher or student) taken from ClassLink.
The setup takes two short exchanges with our team: you send us your ClassLink tenant ID, we send you back a Client ID, and you add the app in the ClassLink Management Console (CMC).
One ClassLink tenant connects to exactly one Flat for Education organization. If your district runs several Flat for Education organizations, tell us which one ClassLink should sign users into.
Before you start
- ClassLink administrator access to the Management Console (CMC) of your district.
- A Flat for Education organization for your district, and the email address of one of its admins.
- Your ClassLink tenant ID, a number such as
1234. Your ClassLink account manager can confirm it if you are not sure.
Set up Flat for Education in ClassLink
Ask us for your LTI 1.3 credentials
Contact our support team and include:
- your ClassLink tenant ID and district name,
- the email address of a Flat for Education admin in your organization.
We register your tenant with ClassLink and link it to your Flat for Education organization. We then send you back your Client ID, which is unique to your district.
Add the app in the ClassLink Management Console
- In the CMC, click Applications, select Add & Assign Apps, then click Add.
- Enter the app name (Flat for Education), a description, and a logo.
- Turn on Single Sign-On, select LTI v1.3 as the type, and click Add. If ClassLink asks for a Resource link ID, leave it as
sso.
Enter the LTI 1.3 settings
In the Add New LTI SSO form, fill in the fields below, then click Save.

Keep Role on Optional. ClassLink then sends each user's real role: teachers and school admins arrive as teachers in Flat for Education, students as students. Picking a fixed role sends that same role for everyone.
Assign the app to your users
Click Applications, select Add & Assign Apps, and click Assign next to Flat for Education. Then click Add for the profiles, groups, or users who should see the app, making sure you point to your connected Active Directory, Azure, or Google domain.
Assigned users now see Flat for Education in their LaunchPad.

Troubleshooting
- "Please enter valid OIDC Login Initiation URL": check the URL is exactly
https://flat.io/lti/classlink/login, withhttps://and no trailing spaces. - A user does not see Flat for Education in LaunchPad: the app is not assigned to their profile, group, or user (step 4).
- Launching Flat for Education shows an error or a sign-in page: check that the Client ID matches the one we sent you and that With PII is set to
Yes. Without PII, Flat for Education does not receive the name and email it needs to create the account. - Teachers arrive as students, or the reverse: set Role back to
Optional(step 3).
