In the normal editing mode (melody), when you add a note, the cursor automatically moves forward, making it easy to quickly input a melody. When you want to stack notes to create a chord, you can add the notes on top of the one to the left of the cursor position.

Melodic Mode

In the chord editing mode, when you add a note, the cursor stays at the position of this added note, making it easy to stack other notes on top of it to create chords. You will then need to manually go to the next position to compose a melody.
