Tab: Change the string assigned to a note
On guitar, bass, and other plucked string instruments, you can move a note to a different string while keeping the same pitch. This is useful when you want to play the same note on a higher or lower string — for example, to make a passage easier to finger or to match a specific playing position.
To move a note to a different string in the tablature, select the note on the TAB staff, and use the following keyboard shortcuts:
| Feature | Keyboard shortcut |
|---|---|
| Go to the upper string | Ctrl + ⇡ or ⌘ + ⇡ |
| Go to the lower string | Ctrl + ⇣ or ⌘ + ⇣ |
Note: If there is already a fret value for the string we will go directly to the next available.
