What are ghost notes?

In music theory, a ghost note is a note that should be played softly or muted. It doesn't have a clear pitch and is mainly used for rhythm. In sheet music, you'll see a ghost note written as an "X" or enclosed in brackets for the note head. This notation tells the musician to lightly touch or mute the string or key without producing a clear sound. It's a subtle technique that adds depth and rhythm to the music.
